November 2015
A busy November of pretty cool jazz projects including The Bob Lark Tribute Concert for the Billy Strayhorn Festival, and the Chicago Human Rhythm Project’s tap concert for the Strayhorn Festival.
The capper for me, though, was the Larry Novak Trio’s CD release party at the Jazz Showcase. Larry sounded wonderful and drummer Rusty Jones and I brought up some of Larry’s lifetime colleagues including vocalists Alma Balier and Marc Pompe, saxophonist Eric Schneider, and former students Larry Harris, Ryan Cohan and Geof Bradfield, all burning pros. I know Larry is proud!
August 2015
I’ll be performing with the Chicago Human Rhythm Project for the Chicago Dancing Festival, August 27 at the Harris Theatre and August 29 at Pritzger Pavillion.
I played on four new recordings with the Mark Colby Quartet, with Chicago multi-reed legend Rich Fudoli and pianist Bradley Williams, with vocalist Josie Falbo, and a trio date with Mark Colby and Bradley Williams.
The Larry Novak Trio with Eric Hochberg and Rusty Jones announce a new album on Delmark Records, release date Novermber 17, 2015. Larry Novak led the house band at the London House and Mister Kelly’s, two of Chicago’s famed hotspots for jazz and entertainment in the 60’s-70’s. A Chicago piano legend.
